Side hustles for senior citizens

โ€ข

You have probably heard a lot about Side hustles. I wasnโ€™t sure exactly what they were until I Googled them.

They are an opportunity to make a little money on the side. Thatโ€™s all they are.

You can have a side hustle at any age. It is especially great if you are a senior citizen. You want a little extra money besides your pension (if you have one) or social security.

Why would you want a side hustle?

Money is the quick answer. Everyone can use a little cash on the side. There are other reasons, like doing something that pays for what you have always wanted to do.

You will meet other folks while you are at it. This is awfully important because isolation can be quite a problem as you age.

It’ll be just like work!

Thatโ€™s a good point. A side hustle should be something that you enjoy doing. Like dog walking or maybe a part-time job at the library.

Examples of side hustles

Do you like to cook? Is making cakes or cupcakes your specialty? You have met many friends over the years. Sometimes, they need cupcakes or a cheesecake for a special occasion. This is a great opportunity.

I mentioned dog walking before. If you are a dog lover like I am, walking a dog a few times a week would be perfect. The dogโ€™s owner would appreciate it, and you would get some exercise and money to boot. Being a dog sitter falls in line with dog walking.

Childcare

Babysitting has existed for a long time. If you donโ€™t mind watching children, this is for you.

Arts and crafts

If you have a talent for making things, you also want to sell them. Youโ€™ll have fun and make a little money. Arts and Crafts are a perfect side hustle for someone who is creative.

You might want to look into Etsy to sell your arts and crafts.

I am an affiliate member of Etsy, and any purchase that you make might result in a commission for me.

Writing

Do you like to write, or do you want to become one?
You can publish your novels, nonfiction, or even short stories on Amazon. Self-publishing has become quite popular. There can be costs involved with this. These costs include editing and creating covers for books. Still, if you are creative enough, you can do these things on your own. And seeing your book after itโ€™s published can be quite enjoyable.

Mystery shopper

This sounds very interesting. Companies will pay you to shop at their stores. You will report back to them on your experience.

Create a blog

More writing! Millions of blogs are out there, and some make quite a lot of money. The cost of starting a blog varies. Many hosting sites run sales all the time, and there are even free sites like Google Blogger. There is a learning curve to having a successful blog, and youโ€™ll need patience, but it’s also fun.

You can make money from blogs by placing ads like Amazon or AdSense. Shareasale is also a big Affiliate company.

Online side hustles

The internet is whole of things you can do to make extra cash without leaving home.

Taking surveys and playing games are offered at some sites. I tried one of the sites, took a few surveys, and played poker.

The downside is that you donโ€™t earn much money. You must give them your phone number. You must also give your email detail. They will call you and send you quite a few emails.

If you are okay with that, go ahead and give it a try.

There is a wonderful Facebook group, Side Hustle Nation | Facebook, where folks like you share ideas about side hustles.
